About
This group is a free workshop for young people of secondary school age in the North and North West of Glasgow, in partnership with North United Communities.
We will have fun exploring, trying out and chatting about Japanese calligraphy, with time for some relaxing mindful awareness and meditation. Traditional Japanese sumi ink and fude brushes on washi paper will be used, suitable for complete beginners.
Beginning simply making marks with the ink, then working from inspiring Chinese and Japanese characters, relating to nature and culture. Enjoy using the ink and brushes, and be immersed in the moment of writing the character! We will work with the the Kaisho style and older Tensho style which dates back over three thousand years to when characters were carved on animal bone and later on bronze vessels.
With demonstrations and friendly help from artist Blair Thomson, who studied Shodo in Japan with calligraphy masters. Kindly supported by The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation.
