It was a cosy and fang-tastic Halloween themed Sutra Tracing group on the 31st October, copying the famous Heart Sutra – Hannya Shingyo, known more fully as the Heart of the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra. We couldn’t keep away the demons from joining, but thankfully once settled they behaved and participated wholeheartedly!
Some folk wanted to dress up – Blair dressed as Kaonashi (the protective spirit from Spirited Away) and we also had nice masks such as a Kitsune fox and demon with large fangs.
After the fun we chatted about the Shakyo practice, Blair gave tips and demonstrations, then he lit incense and chanted, before everyone worked on beginning to copy at their own pace in a meditative and mindful way, enjoying the peaceful time practicing together.
Practitioners asked Blair for help or tips when needed, or to discuss the meanings of the Sutra which can often come across as baffling or mysterious, but has a structure and meanings which can be discovered more deeply through the practice.
Thanks to those who took part and for sending some photos for this post of your vivid Sutra copies!
